[ the vibes are rather peaceful in the observation deck today, where yuri will be able to hear weird noises and twangs coming from one of the couches. it's kazuki, trying to tune his guitar with a handful of stuff set on a table.
he's mindful enough to feel a little anxious when he sees yuri, though. ]
Is it too noisy? My roommate's trying to sleep, so...
[ Anxiety is something Yuri is very familiar with, so it's strange when she feels it when she doesn't feel anxious at all... until she realizes that it must be coming from Kazuki. She shakes her head no. ]
I don't have much of a music taste, so I'm open to hearing all kinds. However, I'd like something that doesn't typically sound like a classical piano piece...
Oh, yeah, I heard her singing the other day. She's not bad. I don't know if it's a priority for her, though - princesses have other stuff to worry about, don't they?
[ How should she explain this... she's thinking about this so hard. Luckily, it's not spilling out to be freely broadcasted. ]
I could barely make the ends meet for myself, so I didn't really have the time or money. Now that I suddenly have a lot of time, I sometimes feel at a loss of what to do.
[ he's trying to rein it in, but there's sympathy in emotionshare. ]
Sorry, I didn't mean to dredge up something like that. [ ... ] But it does give you the chance to figure out what you'd want to do, doesn't it? Even if it's just for two months.
[ Yuri is over at the strip mall. She doesn't know how to shop for clothes, so she's considering getting a suit, but why... there's no meaning to wearing one here, probably? But when her clothes are just this all the time (she has two sets of the exact same thing), she's severely lacking in anything else.
So she's here, staring at all these options. help. ]
In that case, you should just pick something you will wear - whatever's practical for you. But you really don't need an excuse to wear something if you just like it, you know?
[ looks her up and down for a sec. ]
...Maybe start with something casual, if you're not sure? So it's a little different, but not too uncomfortable.
Lucky for you, no one's going to force you into a dress or whatever if you're not comfortable with it. It looks like there are a lot of options for girls, anyways.
...This place has more options than I'm used to seeing for everyone, if I'm honest.
[ gazing at one of the ye olde styles like what the heck is even is this ]
once they get to the medbay he... actually just looks kind of overwhelmed? he doesn't know a thing about first aid. how is he supposed to do it without his hands aaaaaaa ]
[ Yuri luckily does know some things about first aid. She puts Kazuki on top of one of the more comfortable cots for now while the recovery pod starts to boot up. After that, she rushes to get the tube of antiseptic tape to try and tape over Kazuki's cuts that she can find. She hopes this will help the recovery speed just a bit. ]
I'll get you into the recovery pod in just a bit, Kazuki. Bear with me.
[ never in his life did he imagine he would be carried so delicately to a medbay.
he's a good patient, at least! he nods and waits on the cot, his eyes wandering over to a nondescript spot near the corner of the room like he's watching something. ]
[ i just remembered his shoulder is dislocated help me
his eyes flit back to yuri and he shakes his head. aside from the obvious, no, it's all fine. then he tries to say something, croaks out an intelligible noise, and descends into a coughing fit. ]
Yuri gets worried when Kazuki gets into a coughing fit. She can't advise him to drink water right now, but... ugh. Ugh!! She gently picks up Kazuki again and puts him in the recovery pod. She's not going to be rough with him. What if he dislocates another shoulder?? But she also tries to turn Kazuki's head a little so that he doesn't gurgle and accidentally drown in his own blood. ]
[ oh oops my bad. i'll just pretend the first dialogue sentence of my previous tag doesn't exist
Yuri makes sure to observe him, but not too close. She thinks Kazuki must already be dealing with tight spaces, so he probably doesn't need anyone to press their face against the pod lid. ]
It's okay. You don't have to talk. Keep resting. I'll be here...
[ a nod, and we let the pod do its work... he'll be in there for about an hour before it opens again, and out kazuki comes! he looks... mildly better! the wounds have closed, and his hands look less like they've been like a meat grinder. not perfect, maybe, but this is still better than before.
he melts into the nearest seat with with a heavy sigh, and after a moment, speaks up in a raspy voice. ]
[ Oh! Right. She almost forgot she could text with these... Yuri will just speak while Kazuki types. But if he prefers her to type back too, she can. ]
It looks like you were dealing with... monstrous plants. I saw the vines and the cuts could be from thorns... the pollen too.
No, we were just supposed to find something called a heartseed. But Adrastea-san didn't have much information except that it would be at this ceremony they sent us to, so we were supposed to get in, find it, and get out without anyone noticing. I don't think the plants were supposed to be that bad.
[ ah - what an unexpected offer. he wants to reject it, almost out of reflex, because he usually hates how things like that make him feel like a child.
but he looks at something a little to yuri's right for just a second, then back at her. ]
[ yuri! he looks up from where he's fiddling with a guitar's strings with his multitool to offer her a smile, a bunch of music notes twirling around him. ]
Hey, Yuri-san. I'm great. Have you seen all the equipment this place has? I don't even need to ask the crew for an amp now.
Nah, O'Keefe-san would be annoying about it if I did. Besides, there's a soundproof room in the back so no one will have to listen if they don't want to. That way we both get what we want.
Yeah, of course. [ setting this guitar he's working on aside to go pick out another one to borrow from the display-- ] I usually play rock music, but they've got sheet music here for all kinds of styles here. It won't hurt to try something else if rock isn't your speed.
Okay, in that case... Maybe I can play a song of the band's. We just performed a couple weeks before we all woke up here, so it's still pretty fresh.
[ loops the guitar strap over his shoulder, plugs on in, and he starts to play! it would sound something like this, just without the vocals or other instruments. he's not perfect, but he does play it pretty well. ]
I know, I know. That's what everyone keeps telling me, it just takes getting used to. Most of my friends back home don't even know I play, let alone that I joined a band with Isshiki-san, of all people.
[ but he's having fun playing for yuri, so he nods easily. ]
[ By now, she used enough of the pod to seal her wound at the very least and she doesn't want to be in the pod for 12 hours straight, so... break time. (yay)
She smiles when Kazuki comes over to check on her. ]
I'm feeling better. I shouldn't move too much, but after some time, I'll go back inside the pod. I'm sorry for worrying you.
[ Ah, but most of her wounds are from cuts on her face and the big ol' hole at her side. Hm. Yuri thinks about it a little... oh. ]
Could you wrap the bandages around my head and under my hair? I need to change my gauze, but having tape will irritate some of the cuts on my face. It would be good if the bandages could hold it there instead.
It was to clear a storm so that the ship could progress.
[ Yuri ties her hair to hold it in place so that Kazuki has an easier time. She takes the gauze off, but keeps the right eye closed. She wouldn't want to show that to anyone... ]
We ended up on a manor and witnessed an "ideal" aspect of our lives. It was... hurtful. We really believed in them too. Even now, I know it wasn't real, but my mind keeps trying to think that it is.
[ he nods at that before getting to work, carefully winding the bandages around. a storm… sounds familiar. ]
I understand. We saw… people we knew, on Verdure. I totally believed it then, and sometimes I’m still not sure about it, even though it makes no sense.
I’m sorry you had to go through something like that, too.
You're the one injured and you're still worrying about me?
[ a soft laugh. ]
Thanks, Yuri-san, but I'm fine now. Mistral-san made sure I knew it wasn't real, afterward, anyway. Besides, it sounds like what you saw might've been worse.
[ Yuri requests that exactly: miso ice cream with chocolate fudge on top.
... It might be a little too deep in flavor for her liking. Despite that, she eats it all. Maybe she should get carted away from the ice cream trucks before she gets a taste of literally everything. ]
[ he's mostly been giving the limbuses space to process things this weekend, besides a text to check in. but when he sees yuri around later, he does pause to approach her slowly. ]
Yuri-san... How are you feeling? [ not okay, obviously. everyone saw how she reacted. ] Is there anything I can do?
[ Her voice trails off, suddenly remembering something. She was about to suggest hydroponics, but she remembers that Kazuki doesn't particularly like plant things for Reasons. ]
Not that long ago, honestly. There's a park with a playground not far from my school back home. We walk through it all the time - sometimes we just stop there to chat for a while.
As long as there aren't any kids around waiting to use them? Yeah, totally. It helps you get out some of that excess energy... That's always been a problem for me.
[ that may or may be accurate, but describing shinjuku as safe is pretty funny tbh. maybe it is by limbus standards. ]
Mm, depends. Sometimes you see street performances. Sometimes we just find a new place to grab something to eat or drink, or watch a new show. Shinjuku's always got something going on, if you know where to look.
It is. And I wouldn't say it's some kind of utopia - Shinjuku has issues, just like anywhere else. But I haven't had any, myself, even when I go out really late.
... Yes. There are no places without flaws. I've accepted that. If someone tried to convince me that it's a utopia, I might be obligated to deny them. But I'm glad that nothing happened to you. You should enjoy yourself when you can, especially when you want to let out some pent up energy.
[ Can always count on Kazuki to be normal about it. But that last bit in particular stings a little, considering they just watched Gregor's execution with Rodya performing it. ]
... I wish that I learned how to do that before it was too late for anything.
While that's right, I don't think it's normal to keep thinking about those things constantly unless you do have a reason to remember it. Living like that... sounds tiring, if you have to be aware of everything like that at the forefront of your mind.
[ She tilts her head a little while looking over at Kazuki. ]
...I think you're right - that it is exhausting. So is thinking that you could die at any moment. But it's probably like anything else, so you'd get used to it, after a while.
[ Yuri can be seen in the music store some time after the eclipse. She's in the back with an electronic keyboard on her lap, playing Hello by Adele. It's nothing complicated other than her playing chords every now and then. Very beginner-like. ]
[ yuri you fool, you should always expect kazuki in the music store. ]
You should have told me... It's a lot harder learning all on your own. I may not play keyboard, but I could at least help you with learning the notes or something.
Well, the one good thing about a keyboard is that it doesn't need to be tuned, so at least we know that isn't the problem. Watching videos online helped me learn the chords, but we can't really do that here... I could play it for you on guitar and you can try to match it, though?
Which keys are those, again...? [ give him a moment to sort that out. like he said, keyboard isn't his forte. ] Okay, yeah, that looks about right. It's this one, right?
[ adjusting his fingies on the fretboard, he strums a quick chord. matchies? ]
w0 monday
he's mindful enough to feel a little anxious when he sees yuri, though. ]
Is it too noisy? My roommate's trying to sleep, so...
no subject
Not at all. Is that a guitar...?
no subject
[ just a little nervous about messing up in front of other people nbd ]
no subject
no subject
And sure, I don't mind. I'd there a certain kind of music you like, or...?
no subject
no subject
[ a flicker of disappointment there, but he perks right back up immediately. ]
Well, luckily for you, I don't really play classical. I'm more of a rock guy.
no subject
I'm sorry, did you want to play classical music...?
[ that's what he was disappointed over, right?? despite how he just said that he doesn't play classical?? ]
no subject
No...? Like I said, classical music isn't my thing. It's not bad, just not my favorite.
no subject
But didn't you just feel disappointed?
no subject
[ embarrassing... he probably shouldn't have let that slip. ]
It's just that I've been learning that most of you don't know much about music, so I don't really have anyone to talk to about that stuff. That's all.
no subject
Yuri tries thinking hard. Hm... was there anyone who seemed to be into music here that Kazuki could talk to about music? ]
How about Rosamund? She seems musically inclined.
no subject
no subject
[ Yuri tilts her head. Genuinely. Music can be a top priority for someone? Imagine the luxury. ]
I'm sure people are passionate about it regardless of priority...
no subject
Depends on how you look at it. It's a big deal for me.
no subject
Do you want to elaborate, Kazuki? ]
no subject
I'm a musician. Going to be a pro after I graduate.
no subject
[ For some reason, she couldn't understand it earlier. ]
That's nice... to be passionate about something that you want to invest in. Has it been something you wanted to do for a long time?
no subject
...Don't you have anything you're passionate about?
no subject
[ Gloomy. ]
I had to give up on anything that seemed like a luxury.
no subject
But why?
no subject
I could barely make the ends meet for myself, so I didn't really have the time or money. Now that I suddenly have a lot of time, I sometimes feel at a loss of what to do.
no subject
[ he's trying to rein it in, but there's sympathy in emotionshare. ]
Sorry, I didn't mean to dredge up something like that. [ ... ] But it does give you the chance to figure out what you'd want to do, doesn't it? Even if it's just for two months.
no subject
[ This is probably the most she's ever sounded confident and so sure. ]
no subject
no subject
no subject
In that case, I hope this whole thing goes okay so you have somewhere nice to stay in the future.
no subject
[ It's something so small, but Yuri seems happy with that alone. ]
Thank you, Kazuki. I also hope people can return as soon as they can.
no subject
Mm. We'll all make it to wherever we're supposed to be, one way or another.
...If you want, I can show you a little about music, while we're here. Maybe you'll end up liking it more than you think.
no subject
Yuri looks surprised, but happy about the suggestion. ]
That would be nice, Kazuki. I think so too...
[ She can only hope it would overwrite her bad impressions of music. ]
no subject
no subject
w1 monday
So she's here, staring at all these options. help. ]
no subject
[ amused, as he walks up to her. ]
What's up? Nothing standing out?
no subject
[ She feels like it's a waste... ]
Do you have some recommendations for me?
no subject
[ looks her up and down for a sec. ]
...Maybe start with something casual, if you're not sure? So it's a little different, but not too uncomfortable.
no subject
[ Yuri goes over to the section where there seems to be more casual clothes and after some thought, she picks out a gray t-shirt and a pair of jeans.
That's about it. That's the furthest her fashion sense can go. ]
no subject
...Doooooo you have a favorite color? Or any that you really hate?
no subject
[ Her hair is bright enough. Don't need more. ]
I'd also prefer if it was comfortable and... functional.
no subject
no subject
[ She looks at her own red-pink-magenta hair. ]
... Would it really?
[ She's not doubting Kazuki, but rather her own self as to how she'd make it work. ]
no subject
no subject
[ She's also curious now. ]
I would prefer something with pants...
no subject
...This place has more options than I'm used to seeing for everyone, if I'm honest.
[ gazing at one of the ye olde styles like what the heck is even is this ]
no subject
Would you like to try one of those out for fun?
no subject
But if I try it, you have to do it, too.
no subject
[ She thinks a bit of this is... actually fun. ]
So you won't be alone.
w1 thursday

Is something wrong?

his eyes flit back to yuri and he shakes his head. aside from the obvious, no, it's all fine. then he tries to say something, croaks out an intelligible noise, and descends into a coughing fit.

no subject
it only lasts a few seconds, thankfully. once it's over, he catches his breath, and gives her a small, grateful smile. ]
no subject
... That was fast. How are you feeling, Kazuki?
no subject
he grimaces and shakes his head, gesturing with his good arm toward his neck. it hurts, he still can't really talk. ]
no subject
Yuri makes sure to observe him, but not too close. She thinks Kazuki must already be dealing with tight spaces, so he probably doesn't need anyone to press their face against the pod lid. ]
It's okay. You don't have to talk. Keep resting. I'll be here...
no subject
he melts into the nearest seat with with a heavy sigh, and after a moment, speaks up in a raspy voice. ]
Thank you, Yuri-san.
no subject
[ While it's true that Kazuki seems to have recovered a little, Yuri doesn't think it's enough. ]
And it's okay. Please don't speak. If you think you can drink water without affecting your throat too much, here...
[ She hands him a small cup of water. ]
no subject
[ there are others injured too, apparently? but yeah, he'll very gingerly take the water, wincing, but he manages to take a sip. ]

INTERLUDE
no subject
It looks like you were dealing with... monstrous plants. I saw the vines and the cuts could be from thorns... the pollen too.
no subject
INTERLUDE
I thought I was going to be crushed.
no subject
[ No dying, Kazuki!! Please!! ]
What was exactly your mission...? Was it to contain those plants?
no subject
INTERLUDE
I don't think the plants were supposed to be that bad.
no subject
[ She'd hate for all this to happen for nothing. ]
no subject
no subject
Would you like to lie down on the cot? Sitting up might be strenuous for your healing body.
no subject
Better?
no subject
[ It makes her giggle a bit. But she goes to fluff a pillow and position it under Kazuki's head. ]
So, are you?
no subject
Yeah. I'm good for now, I think.
no subject
[ Maybe even relaxingly brush through his hair? Definitely in a platonic way though. ]
no subject
but he looks at something a little to yuri's right for just a second, then back at her. ]
...Only if you want to.
[ it might be nice, not to be alone. ]
no subject
[ She wants to be helpful. ]
So, please rest up. Many people want to see you healthy again too.
no subject
[ lies back with a sigh, closing his eyes. ]
I'll go in again tomorrow, so don't worry about me too much, Yuri-san.
[ except the medbay will be locked!!! ]
no subject
I know I can count on you, Kazuki. You're very earnest and honest.
w2 tuesday
Hello, Kazuki. How are you feeling today?
no subject
Hey, Yuri-san. I'm great. Have you seen all the equipment this place has? I don't even need to ask the crew for an amp now.
[ kazuki is in his element! ]
no subject
It really has a lot... were you planning on playing your guitar in your room with the amp?
no subject
no subject
Oh, I see... I thought Shu wouldn't have cared if he doesn't stay in the room a lot.
[ ??? ]
no subject
no subject
Could you show me the kind of music that you play on the guitar? I want to learn more about music from you.
no subject
Yeah, of course. [ setting this guitar he's working on aside to go pick out another one to borrow from the display-- ] I usually play rock music, but they've got sheet music here for all kinds of styles here. It won't hurt to try something else if rock isn't your speed.
no subject
I want to listen to your rock music, Kazuki.
[ let's go!!!! ]
no subject
Okay, in that case... Maybe I can play a song of the band's. We just performed a couple weeks before we all woke up here, so it's still pretty fresh.
[ loops the guitar strap over his shoulder, plugs on in, and he starts to play! it would sound something like this, just without the vocals or other instruments. he's not perfect, but he does play it pretty well. ]
no subject
I really liked that! I didn't know you were in a band, Kazuki... that's so cool.
no subject
I kind of got strongarmed into joining right after that concert, so it's... pretty new. It still feels surreal.
...I'm glad you liked it.
no subject
That means they recognized your skill! I'm very happy for you, Kazuki. I think I enjoy rock more right now... could you play another song for me?
no subject
[ but he's having fun playing for yuri, so he nods easily. ]
Sure. I can keep going as long as you want.
no subject
[ Yuri is so excited. Thank you for giving her good association with music, Kazuki. ]
w3 thursday
Feeling any better, Yuri-san?
[ worried... ]
no subject
She smiles when Kazuki comes over to check on her. ]
I'm feeling better. I shouldn't move too much, but after some time, I'll go back inside the pod. I'm sorry for worrying you.
no subject
If you need help with bandages or anything, I've been trying to learn from Io-san.
no subject
[ Ah, but most of her wounds are from cuts on her face and the big ol' hole at her side. Hm. Yuri thinks about it a little... oh. ]
Could you wrap the bandages around my head and under my hair? I need to change my gauze, but having tape will irritate some of the cuts on my face. It would be good if the bandages could hold it there instead.
no subject
[ he'll go ahead and pull out the bandages, ready whenever yuri is. ]
...What happened, anyway? It was a mission like ours, right?
no subject
[ Yuri ties her hair to hold it in place so that Kazuki has an easier time. She takes the gauze off, but keeps the right eye closed. She wouldn't want to show that to anyone... ]
We ended up on a manor and witnessed an "ideal" aspect of our lives. It was... hurtful. We really believed in them too. Even now, I know it wasn't real, but my mind keeps trying to think that it is.
no subject
I understand. We saw… people we knew, on Verdure. I totally believed it then, and sometimes I’m still not sure about it, even though it makes no sense.
I’m sorry you had to go through something like that, too.
no subject
[ What the fuck!! (yuri you were impaled) STILL
The care Kazuki is putting into bandaging her head is nice. ]
no subject
[ a soft laugh. ]
Thanks, Yuri-san, but I'm fine now. Mistral-san made sure I knew it wasn't real, afterward, anyway. Besides, it sounds like what you saw might've been worse.
no subject
[ Yuri bites her lip a little, before relaxing. ]
Whether it was worse or not, suffering is still not something people should deal with in general.
[ ur suffering is valid kazuki
even when it's nobody picking your side re: medbay ]
no subject
no subject
... That's true. I'm a little more used to people nullifying their entire experience.
no subject
[ after finishing up with the bandages, he just makes sure they're secure and not too uncomfortable before setting the rest aside. ]
How's that?
no subject
It's very well done. Thank you, Kazuki.
[ we can wrap up here if you'd like!! ]
w4 tuesday
"Extra Virgin Olive Oil" flavored ice cream...? Is this real?
no subject
no subject
[ So she asks for a sample of the ice cream and eats it...
... ]
--Ah, it melts so quickly. The texture is good, but I'm not sure about the taste.
no subject
Yeah, I don't know about that one. Maybe I'll just stick with chocolate for now.
no subject
[ But she wants to be (safely) adventurous, so she looks over at other flavors. ]
Oh, there's lobster...
[ She asks for a sample of that and... it's just salty chicken to her. ]
no subject
[ frowning at some of these flavors. ]
Lobster...? That can't taste good in ice cream.
no subject
[ blech. ]
I might find a strange flavor that actually tastes good though, and... it's free!
[ Is this luxury or foolishness... ]
no subject
Fair enough. I've heard miso ice cream is good, if they have that. Never tried it myself, though.
no subject
Oh, it's very... flavor-rich...? Deep... in something.
[ How should she describe this?? ]
no subject
no subject
[ Yuri requests that exactly: miso ice cream with chocolate fudge on top.
... It might be a little too deep in flavor for her liking. Despite that, she eats it all. Maybe she should get carted away from the ice cream trucks before she gets a taste of literally everything. ]
no subject
You're really planning to try out everything, aren't you? That's how you get brain freeze, you know.
w5 sunday
Yuri-san... How are you feeling? [ not okay, obviously. everyone saw how she reacted. ] Is there anything I can do?
no subject
Kazuki...
[ She smiles a little. ]
I'm... I'm not feeling great. Do you want to go for a walk, with me? For a little bit.
no subject
[ even he's pretty shaken up, though obviously not to the same degree. still, he nods. ]
Sure. Anywhere you want.
no subject
[ Her voice trails off, suddenly remembering something. She was about to suggest hydroponics, but she remembers that Kazuki doesn't particularly like plant things for Reasons. ]
... How about the park where the playground is?
no subject
Sounds as good a place as any. There's... sort of fresh air in there, right? Might do some good.
[ the only thing plants are good for, actually. ]
no subject
Yuri nods and starts leading him there. ]
Kazuki, how long has it been since you went to a playground?
no subject
Not that long ago, honestly. There's a park with a playground not far from my school back home. We walk through it all the time - sometimes we just stop there to chat for a while.
[ not really to play, but. ]
no subject
[ As if on cue, they arrive at the park playground and Yuri walks over to sit on a swing. ]
It gives my idle limbs something to do and there's something about sitting on a swing that feels fun.
no subject
no subject
[ She thought it all went into his youthful drive... ]
no subject
no subject
Do you find anything surprising when you walk around the city?
[ Must be nice for it to be so safe... ]
no subject
Mm, depends. Sometimes you see street performances. Sometimes we just find a new place to grab something to eat or drink, or watch a new show. Shinjuku's always got something going on, if you know where to look.
no subject
It sounds like a bustling city. You never have any problems when you go out for walks?
[ She will starting swinging on her swing. Wheeee. ]
no subject
no subject
no subject
...But yeah, I agree. [ a bit solemnly, ] We don't know how long we'll be around, so we should just enjoy the time we have as much as we can.
[ it's a bit hard to do here, sometimes, but still. they have to try. ]
no subject
... I wish that I learned how to do that before it was too late for anything.
no subject
[ he'll take the swing next to yuri to sit on, idly kicking one foot. ]
I guess you just don't think about how important that is until you lose the chance.
no subject
[ She tilts her head a little while looking over at Kazuki. ]
What do you think, Kazuki?
no subject
w7 monday
no subject
You're learning to play?
no subject
[ Yuri is surprised to see Kazuki, since she didn't expect him here, but seeing him smile like that makes her return the smile. ]
Yes. I've been trying to practice here and there... it's quite fun.
no subject
You should have told me... It's a lot harder learning all on your own. I may not play keyboard, but I could at least help you with learning the notes or something.
no subject
It's been... quite the week.
[ It's time to reclaim the music room!! ]
But would you have any advice, Kazuki? I have recently tried out chords and sometimes they don't sound right.
no subject
[ especially for the limbuses... ]
Well, the one good thing about a keyboard is that it doesn't need to be tuned, so at least we know that isn't the problem. Watching videos online helped me learn the chords, but we can't really do that here... I could play it for you on guitar and you can try to match it, though?
no subject
[ Yuri will wait for Kazuki to whip out his guitar and get ready. ]
